Grew Up In The Industry
Sanjana Bhandari grew up backstage. Third-generation beauty expert. Bollywood sets before she could drive. Runways from Mumbai to New York by the time most people are picking a college major.
She’s done hair and makeup for thousands of people on the biggest days of their careers & life. But the idea for JoJo Laali didn’t come from a red carpet. It came from her own wedding.
Her Own Wedding
Two years ago, Sanjana was getting married, and she knew exactly what she wanted: every one of her guests dolled up, looking and feeling beautiful on her wedding day. After all, they were attending a makeup artist’s wedding.
She’d done it before. At her cousins’ weddings, she was always the one in charge of the glam, making sure everyone in the room looked and felt their best. But on her own wedding day, she couldn’t do it herself. Of course she couldn’t.
So she went looking for artists who could bring that same professionalism and precision to her destination wedding. And what she found instead was a gap. There was no system for this. No one built to take care of an entire guest list, at scale, with real polish, in one place.
That gap stayed with her.
What She Understood
Individual artists are talented. But today, talent is barely half the job. An artist is expected to be a gifted people person, a consistent content creator, a good spokesperson for their punctuality, all while filling their calendar with as much booked work as they can carry. That’s a lot to ask of one person, and none of it has to do with how good they are with a brush.
Most artists are working solo, doing their best for whoever’s in the chair, one booking at a time. Orchestrating hair, makeup, and draping for an entire wedding party, with real hospitality and nothing dropped, takes a completely different skill set. It’s logistics. It’s customer experience. It’s artistry, at scale. Most artists aren’t equipped for all of it at once, and honestly, that’s not their job.
Sanjana realized it needed to be someone’s job. So she made it hers.
What She Built
She paired her operational instincts with her artist’s eye to build something bigger than a glam squad for the bride. She wanted a system: one place where every guest gets real artistry and real care, where brides and planners could hand off the stress completely, and where hair and makeup artists could find more consistent work, instead of chasing one booking at a time.
That system is JoJo Laali.
The Name
JoJo Laali is a Kannada lullaby her mother sang to her. It’s one of the first sounds she ever knew: soft, familiar, home.
That’s what she wanted this brand to feel like. Not a vendor. Not another line item on a wedding budget. A presence that makes people feel held, the way that lullaby did.
Every guest. Beautifully seen. That’s the whole idea.
